The Constitution of India for Children

It’s the Republic day weekend and my 7-year-old kid has started asking me questions about the sovereignty, constitution, republic, and all the other terms after attending a presentation on the need for the Republic day in his school. So I tried explaining to him about those terms at a high level but could see in his eyes that he is not really happy with my answers and a lot of questions started spinning in his head. That’s when I started searching for a book that would explain the Constitution of India for kids online and hit upon the book written by Subhadra Sen Gupta. I immediately ordered it from Amazon.

Book Review:

Subhadra has done a commendable job in explaining the huge Constitution of India in simple terms so that the kids can easily understand it at a high level. This book has all the elements, like snippets, illustrations, and shoutouts to keep the kids glued to the book. Though it’s more verbose for my 7-year-old kid, but after spending half an hour with this book, my kid seems to be satisfied at a high level and his interest got diverted to other pertinet history incidents mentioned in the book. As the illustrations and snippets are very catchy for the younger kids like my son.

It wouldn’t be overrating if I say that this is one of the must-read books for kids to know about our country’s history and its freedom struggle. After reading this book the middle schoolers would find it easier to understand the Civics and Economics at their secondary level. For the elementary kids, it would give a high-level understanding of the Constitution of India, which would lead them to explore more questions about India at relative ease.

Not only that, but this book also provides a quick recap for adults who would want a quick brief on the Constitution of India. The fun trivia provided at the end of the book about various official icons of India is a section that can drive the reader to find out more such things about India. Overall it’s a very interesting and must-read book for every one, irrespective of their age.
