Montessori Parenting books across all ages in a blog post by mommyshravmusings

My top favorite books about Montessori Parenting

I do get a lot of DM’s on my Instagram page about Montessori Parenting and the Experiential Learning that I follow with Shrav. In fact, in the pandemic-stricken world, where children complete most of their school online, it’s all the more important for parents to adopt the Montessori Parenting principles. The Montessori Parenting approach helps children grow into balanced individuals acknowledging their strengths and weaknesses.

Last time, during the #MyFriendAlexa campaign, I spoke at length about the Montessori methodology and Parenting techniques. I am sharing another list of Montessori Parenting books split across the child’s age this time, which I use extensively in my work too.

Montessori Parenting Books:

I am listing my top favorite Montessori parenting books per the different age brackets categorized by Dr. Maria Montessori. There are a lot more books available in the market. Still, these are the books that I have read multiple times and would recommend to anyone interested in the Montessori philosophy.

Zero to toddler years

Montessori From the Start: The Child at Home from Birth to Age Three

From the start, Montessori talks about raising the child naturally and comfortably for both parents and child. They don’t recommend the expensive nursery setup or provide too much emphasis on early weaning or potty training. They recommend taking to the child’s cues and introducing the solids or potty training when the child’s body and mind are ready. I would say one of the excellent books about Montessori Parenting.

The Montessori Toddler

The Montessori toddler book is another fantastic book that recommends raising the child in the most natural way possible. The child doesn’t need expensive plastic toys and a lot of junk. Their exploration starts when they are along with the mother or other supervising adult in the house. They can play anywhere with any material that’s available to them.

Toddler till six years

Teach Me To Do It Myself

This book lists all the simple activities you can set up at home with minimal preparation. All these activities would make your toddler move from dependence to independence—a real gem for parents who want to engage their kids in a constructive activity at home.

How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen

How to talk so little kids will listen gives you real-life examples of the gentle parenting process. Instead of shouting or yelling at them or giving in to all their demands, there is always another fun way to deal with them. The authors show these different ways to deal with all kinds of needs and tantrums from children of all ages. This book could be used with kids of all ages.

Elementary Years:

Children Who Are Not Yet Peaceful

This is another excellent book to deal with children in their elementary years (6-12 years). The book lists many strategies to deal with the sensitive periods in the child and their emotional disturbances and intellectual hunger. I would recommend this book to all parents whose child is in elementary.

Montessori Madness: A Parent-to-Parent Argument for Montessori Education

This book discusses the practical aspects of Montessori parenting by a Montessori Parent himself. The author has used the Montessori principles to teach the pilots how to navigate through the skies. I like this book a lot because of the author’s engaging writing style and the good discussions/arguments he used in the book.

Teenage years:

I like and recommend this book, “The Self-Driven Child,” as a parenting coach to everyone is that this book shows the importance of being just a guide to the child instead of a coach. As a parent, we have only to show different paths to the child, and how he travels on that path is the child’s decision. This book explains it beautifully, and with the help of the tips and strategies given in it, you can show that path to your child.

How to Raise an Adult is one of the books suited for kids of all ages. It shows how the trap of overparenting is killing the confidence in the child, especially in their early teenage years. There is a lot of valuable advice about recognizing the child’s cues and wants even when he is not talking or sharing with the parents.

Maria Montessori Books

Of all the books Dr. Maria Montessori wrote, most Montessorians treat The Secret of Childhood and The Absorbent Mind as Bibles. I would have read both of them multiple times. These books talk about the child being a wonderful human being full of possibilities and how much he would learn just by observing the parents and other adults around him.

Final Thoughts:

I hope you find this list of Montessori Parenting books helpful to you and help you understand the Montessori philosophy in a better way. These books are additional to the list I mentioned on my blog under Montessori Parenting. If you have any questions or doubts, please drop in your comments or book a free consultation call with me from my contact page. I would provide as much help and guidance as I can.
